All lives are dependent on the quality of the environment. Degradation of the environment was foreseen to impact all the lives.
Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 was enacted by Parliament of the Republic India for protection and improvement of environment.
India by the orders of PMO has been incarcerated since 26 March 2020 to curt global pandemic of Covid19.
The zeal of MoEFCC in conducting virtual meetings and approving wide scale projects which includes the idea of: mining, infrastructure, industries, forest areas and most importantly to remake New Delhi’s Parliament District by relaxing the National Environmental Assessment Rules albeit Covid19 has flood away all good according to some Environmentalist Experts.
On 23rd March MoEFCC issued a new draft policy on assessing the environmental impacts of new projects. Critics condemn this move as such projects are getting easy “yes” without evaluation.
The ongoing steps taken by the government flout Article 47 making state’s duty to raise nutrition level and public health. The migrant workers are affected the most. Lack of proper transportation makes them vulnerable to the pandemic contagiousness. Also, Article 21 ensuring Right to Life is at threat due to less Covid-19 testing for 130 Cr+ citizens. Stats shows India’s testing rate is only 2,621 per million as of June 2.
In a report to Union Health Ministry, an estimated 20-25 million migrants walked or traveled in bus/train to their villages; the number of deaths of migrants meanwhile is in question.
Environment is healing not by Act but by own act.
